Erbar Mattes is a London based architectural studio. Demian Erbar and Holger Mattes established the practice in 2015, after having collaborated since 2008 on a wide range of arts, hospitality and residential projects in the UK and abroad.

Since its inception, the practice has developed a growing portfolio of private commissions and been recognised for the quality of its design and built work. Harvey Road, our first completed project won the DMI 2017 Best Use of Materials Award and the studio has been shortlisted by BD Magazine as 2017 Small Project Architect of the Year.

Our interest in sensitive urban and rural contexts is reflected in current commissions that include a guest house in the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the complete reconfiguration and extension of a Grade II listed building in London, and a new-built annex to a private house in a Conservation Area of Cambridge.

Demian Erbar
Director, Dipl.-Ing. Architect ARB RIBA

Demian studied architecture at La Sapienza University in Rome and the Technical University in Aachen, where he graduated in 2006. He gained professional experience working in Germany and Argentina prior to joining David Chipperfield Architects in London in 2008. There he was Project Architect for the interiors of the Stirling Prize nominated Hepworth Wakefield Gallery, an artist studio in Norfolk and a residential development in London. Alongside practice, Demian is engaged as Design Studio Tutor at the Welsh School of Architecture, Cardiff University.

Holger Mattes
