Brockhampton Cricket Club
Competition entry for a new build club house
Brockhampton, Hereford
2021
Erbar Mattes were invited to develop a concept for the new Brockhampton cricket club house. The building brief comprised a main hall with bar, ancillary back of house area, and team changing rooms, totalling 240m2.
For the rectangular main hall, we proposed a sloping roof that formed a continuation of the gentle pitch of the playing field. Panoramic sliding windows along the covered viewing deck stretched from one end of the space to the other. A high level clerestory window looking towards the magnificent trees on the opposite side of the building introduced a double aspect allowing the filtered morning sun to flood the space.
L-shaped, wrapped around the main space, we allocated back of house and team changings rooms under a flat roof. We extended this roof further to the front to create sheltered seating areas and a viewing veranda that gently followed the curve of the playing field.
